In celebration of World Sustainability Day on October 29, 2025, Manuport Logistics Indonesia (MPLI) reaffirmed its strong commitment to environmental and social responsibility by organizing a beach clean-up event under the inspiring theme “Make Waves, Not Waste!”.

This initiative represents a tangible step in our ongoing implementation of its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles and aims to raise awareness about the importance of collective action in protecting the planet.

The activity took place along the Thousand Islands in Jakarta, also known as Damar Island, and involved 26 participants, including MPLI employees, clients, and community partners. The event was organized in collaboration with Langit Biru Pertiwi and supported by the Dinas Lingkungan Hidup DKI Jakarta, ensuring that all collected waste would be properly sorted, processed, and recycled.

In just 2 hours, the team successfully gathered a total of 513 kilograms of waste, consisting of various types of plastic, metal, and glass materials. The collected waste was then handed over to the Dinas Lingkungan Hidup DKI Jakarta for further recycling and sustainable processing.

“The reason we organized this Beach Clean-Up is because we believe it is extremely important to give back to the community and the country we live in. By dedicating a little of our time and energy, we aim to address one of the major global challenges waste managements, which affects not only Indonesia but the entire world.

My team and I decided to hold this event not only to collect waste, but also to emphasize that sustainability is more than just a concept; it is a shared responsibility. Through our tagline, “Make Waves, Not Waste,” we hope to inspire action and remind everyone that real change begins with small steps toward a cleaner environment. We believe that no initiative is too small, everyone has the power to contribute and make a difference” said by Managing Director of PT Manuport Logistics Indonesia.

Beyond the clean-up itself, the event also featured an environmental education session conducted by Nadia Mulya from Langit Biru Pertiwi, where the team learned about waste management and the recycling process. The session highlighted the impact of waste on health, introduced different types of recyclable and non-recyclable materials, and demonstrated how waste can be transformed into organic fertilizer.

A representative from Langit Biru Pertiwi, Nadia Mulya also shared valuable insights with all participants about how waste contributes to climate change.

“Jakarta has been experiencing severe flooding, and one of the main causes is pollution resulting from our daily consumption habits and the waste we generate. The pollution from our consumption can be divided into two types: organic and non-organic.

When we talk about climate change, organic waste such as leftover food, which makes up more than half of what ends up in landfills plays a significant role. This type of waste produces methane gas, a highly harmful greenhouse gas that contributes to global warming through the greenhouse effect.

Meanwhile, non-organic waste, such as plastic waste like the ones we collected today creates a different kind of problem. These materials clog drainage systems, preventing water from flowing properly. As a result, during heavy rainfall, the water overflows and causes severe flooding in the city.”

Through its Make Waves, Not Waste campaign, MPL Indonesia reinforces its dedication to building a sustainable future not only by excelling in its business operations but also by contributing positively to society and the environment.

This initiative highlights how corporate sustainability can drive real impact, encouraging more individuals and organizations to take part in protecting Indonesia’s natural beauty.

“We hope the Make Waves, Not Waste movement creates a ripple of positive change inspiring more people, especially within our team, to care for our planet and be more mindful about how we consume and dispose of waste. Sustainability isn’t just a choice; it’s something we can all do together,” said Ka Tian Andrew, representative of PT Manuport Logistics Indonesia

With the start of the sugar campaign just behind us, Belgian sugar exports are gaining momentum. During the previous sugar season, Belgian freight forwarder Manuport Logistics (MPL) transported 28,599 containers, representing 719,000 tons of sugar. The forwarder plays a key role in Belgian sugar exports, which remained stable at 112 kilotons in July 2025 but were 43 percent lower than a year earlier. Expectations are higher for the current season, partly due to favorable weather conditions and rapid initial growth of the beets.
